 John of God functions as a medium, but is sometimes referred to as a shaman because of the extraordinary miracles that occur around him. His mission is to allow benevolent, highly-evolved spirits, (aka disembodied entities or angels), to incorporate in his body, to perform seemingly miraculous healing, utilizing both physical and psychic surgery. His work has been authenticated by teams of scientists and documented in two hour-long shows on ABC Primetime in 2005 as well as numerous TV-shows around the world, and books.
John’s intent is to be a vehicle for God's work. He often says, “It is not I but God who does the healing”. He has kept to this intention despite being persecuted and physically abused by those who do not want him to practice his unique, and effective way of serving humanity without a medical license, and without formal links to any conventional church.
Each week, people come in their thousands either to be healed physically or to realign their spirituality. John of God hold the healing sessions on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. John of God does not charge for his healing sessions. He will see every one until the last line has passed in front of him.
As you arrive at the Casa, and before joining every body in the assembly hall, you collect a "ticket". Once in the hall, prayers are told while every body is holding hands.  This is already a very powerful place of meditation. As respect to this spiritual sanctuary, the motto is "Silence is a prayer".
Healing sessions start once the Entities incorporating Joao have decided which nominated line will pass first. Everyone pass in front of John of God in silence, whilst others are sitting in the current rooms, meditating or been asked to sit for further healing. As you approach John, you give your prepared questions to the translator who in turn will tell you the message to follow given by the entities.
At times, the Entity will walk through the current to the assembly hall and perform visible surgeries. He will give a "sermon" and as he scans the crowd he might point at somebody to go for invisible surgery, to sit in the current, or he will carry out an operation on the spot.
l have witnessed many interventions such as cataracts, tumors, remove breast cancers with a small incision, throw away crutches, asked crippled to walk at the touch of his hand. On my second healing session, John of God threw away my crutch.
